We are part of the Kennel Club Accredited Breeders Scheme and feel that it will benefit breeders immensely and show whom practises the best breeding ethics. By being part of the scheme, we hope to encourage the finest breeding standards of all dogs; but specifically the German Shepherd. We hope to work with the Kennel Club so that we can improve the breed regarding health schemes and show that being part of the scheme determines the excellent breeders from the worse breeders.

We hope to find puppy owners who are as enthusiastic about dogs as much as we are! If you are considering to introduce a new puppy to your family, please visit the pages below and hopefully they will give you insight to the wishes of the breeder and whether the time is right for a new companion.

Our Puppy Management

Please note that our puppies have endorsed KC paper work R – Progeny not eligible for registration X – Not eligible for issue of export pedigree Each puppy also leaves here with a Trulywayside Contract of Sale which new owners have to sign before leaving our premises.

We think that we have one of the best programmes for puppies, referring litter rearing. Like noted throughout the website, we have been breeding selectively for over a number of years. Fortunately, after applying for my affix our horizons have expanded further and, have gained a mass amount of knowledge (and are still learning) over the past three years in all aspects of this magnificent breed. We think we should encourage a better upbringing of the litters breeders have. (Litters link in with the whole progress of the German Shepherd, and too many breeders feel that only the criteria of the breeding pair will determine how a puppy’s temperament will turn out). At Trulywayside, we believe that a puppy’s first nine weeks of life are significant to how it will actually turn out. Yes; the parent’s temperaments, health checks and working qualifications play a part but, environmental factors are an enormous fraction. Puppies develop their canine behaviours when around their littermates, and also how their mother is ‘the leader of the pack’. If a puppy is exposed to a variety of noises and bangs at this stage, he has no actual behaviour to show and the only one he knows is to act as if everything is normal (exact behaviour needs to be encouraged). This is when playing a sounds CD is key, and repeating those various sounds will make the puppies used to hearing them. Thus; when bonfire night comes along, the sounds may not be as much as a fright. We strongly believe that preparation within the first puppy hood may be the solution with proofing a dog’s capability when older. Our aim is to produce healthy, happy, confident, trainable and adaptable puppies. Referring back to ‘leader of the pack’, we aim to train our puppies’ the foundations of basic commands such as Sit, Watch, Stand and Down. The ‘Watch’ command is very important; eye contact is to gain trust and also pin points out that the puppy has to watch his leader and be guided by him. Also, we try to make our puppy’s sit and wait before having their meals, this then makes them work for their dinner and they learn that they have us as their leader. Upon this, is has to be remembered that all dogs are not the same; and some need different training methods and leaders to create a balance. This is why we do ‘Puppy Aptitude Tests’ to help determine what homes our puppies should go to and, what sort of field would be to their advantage e.g. Obedience, Agility, Fly ball. Also, when training our puppies the foundations of basic commands, we use the clicker device, voice control, hand signals and food rewards. This helps us see what type of method is best suited to that puppy. This information is passed on to their new owners as a benefit for them. We also identify our puppies using soft cotton first of all, and when they are not as fragile, a collar is placed upon them. This is a brilliant way to adjust a puppy having to wear a collar and lead training. Our puppies are also groomed everyday and held by family members, associated with horses and other dogs to ensure that they are getting maximum socialisation. As well as all of the efforts already mentioned, we have extensive puppy coverage. You are always welcome to visit your chosen puppy after 4 weeks old, and also talk to us about the future. We offer weekly updates and the progress of your puppy, and pictures included. When your puppy leaves Trulywayside, you may take home with you detailed leaflets, a CD of its progress, Socialisation Charts, Puppy Pack, Genetic Criteria, 6 weeks insurance from the KC, Petplan Insurance Coverage, goody bags and so on! All of our puppies are KC Registered and we also provide a genuine KC Five Generation pedigree. To add on, we give a home made pedigree which is more detailed and this type will be more essential within international bloodlines we will venture into. Our puppies are also microchipped. I am sure we will be adding to our puppy rearing programme to ensure that it is progressing. The head of our puppy management is Allessandria Sivori and it is best if you contact her for extensive details. Anyone who would like to suggest improvements is more than welcomed. We aim to do our best when our next generations are concerned.
